10 Things you should do after getting engaged

Congratulations on your engagement. You had about 5 seconds of excitement before the stress crept in.  What do I do now? Do I call my mom? Update my Facebook status? Are we still going to the movies this weekend? It’s perfectly normal to not have a clue what to do. That’s what I do 95% of the time and I’m fine. I’m fine ugh.

Check out a quick checklist of the 10 things we wish we knew after getting engaged.

Relationship Status: Engaged

Of course, you have to share the good news. BUT FIRST make sure you tell mom, dad, close family, and friends the news. The last thing you want is drama because so and so found out you were engaged on Facebook. Once you share the great news with all your loved ones,  start sharing it all over Facebook.

Start Collecting Inspiration

Let Pinterest, wedding blogs, and magazines be your best friend.  Save all those pins to look at later and start developing a wedding theme.  Are you old school like me? Budget

At this point, you are going to want to set a budget. Once you set a budget it will allow you to quickly determine what kind of wedding you want.

Select your Wedding Date

After how did he propose – – when’s the big day? Is a close second. You likely won’t have a date set, but you can answer a few questions right off the bat.

  • Winter or summer wedding?
  • Elope or have a destination wedding?
  • Weekday Wedding? Or on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday?

Once you settle on a wedding date you can determine if your venue and dream vendors are available.

Location

Do you want to get married locally or do a destination wedding?  This will help you decide where guests will be coming from and help you narrow down your guest list.

Hire a Wedding Planner

An amazing wedding planner can do wonders. They can help find amazing vendors at discounts, develop a wedding theme, handle vendor payments, put together wedding timelines – – And most importantly.. Elevate any stress that could have popped up when the wedding day approaches faster than a speeding bullet.

Guest List

Put together a list of all the guests that are local and will be traveling. Will out-of-town guests need hotel rooms for the night or the weekend? Will guests be driving or need airplane tickets?

Create a Webpage

You can put together a beautiful wedding website on sites like The Knot, Minted, and many others. Put together a site and start looking for an engagement photographer.

Have your engagement ring insured

It’s always a good idea to get your engagement ring insured, just in case it gets lost or stolen at any point in the future. Insurance is the only way to replace your ring without having to pay for an entirely new one, so you should definitely take the time to make sure your precious new piece of jewelry is covered. The peace of mind you will have is priceless.
