You’re engaged!! Congrats. Now you are looking for a Kansas City Engagement photographer In this blog i’m going to cover some of the most important things to think about to find the right engagement photographer.
WHY SHOULD WE HAVE ENGAGEMENT PHOTOS?
1.) One of the biggest benefits of having an engagement photographer is getting practice in front of the camera. Getting comfortable with your photographers personality, posing, and overall vibe will benefit you tremendously. It’s encouraged that you have the same engagement photographer for your wedding day.
2.) Your engagement photos can also be used for your save the dates, wedding invitations, the knot and wedding wire registry, social media, carrier pigeon and everything in between. One of my favorite things now is using a save the date as a guest book.
DO THEY MATCH MY STYLE?
There are so many amazing photographers out there, all with completely different styles. Do you gravitate to a light and airy, dark and moody, moody and bright, documentary style, or a classic film look. These are all amazing styles and something that you should be thinking about. Just because you decide on a photographic style, doesn’t mean you should discount a photographer right away. We pride ourselves on adapting our styles to that of the client. Images can easily be manipulated to match a certain style with simple changes in the direction of the light, quality of the light, and many other things. If you like a photographer, make sure you discuss with them your vision. This is why engagement sessions are so important, because it allows you to have a test run with your Kansas City wedding photographer, and see if they are able to bring your vision to life. DON’T KILL MY VIBE
Another thing to think about when booking your Kansas City engagement photographer is their personality. The photographer and videographer are going to be with you the entire day, so this should be somebody that you enjoy spending the most important day of your life with. Are you looking for a photographer that is going to be fun and energetic, and bring life to the photos? Do you want your photographer to blend in and document the day? Think of your photographer as a best friend. Is this somebody that I would have invited to my wedding? Somebody that I want to spend my entire day with? If not, it doesn’t matter how great they are with the camera, you might want to look elsewhere.
And finally, reviews are important. Look and see what other past clients are saying about their photos. Check out some of my reviews.
And most importantly, look at their reviews. What do actual clients of theirs have to say about their engagement and wedding photos? Finding that blend of having fun & getting the photos they’ve always dreamed of is the perfect blend you’re looking for. At least, that’s what I highly recommend for you. Check out my reviews.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT LOCATION
There are so many amazing locations to take engagement photos in Kansas City from Loose Park, Nelson Atkins, Kaufmann Center, The Plaza, West Bottoms, River Market, Shawnee Mission Park, Downtown Kansas City and many more. Are you looking for pretty flowers, massive bodies of water, large buildings, abandoned buildings, murals, large trees, architecture, leading lines, city view, or something else? A great photographer will help you pick the perfect location and time of day to bring those engagement photos to life.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT TIME
During the winter months it gets dark early, and cold even earlier. But this makes for some amazing, soft light. During the summer months, you have a long period of golden hour to take advantage of the nice warm light. The time of year can dramatically change your image, so be thinking about this.
WHAT TO WEAR
This all depends on the couple. My best advice is to be comfortable and be you. Bring two outfits if you like. One casual, and one fancy. Compliment each other. Hey, girl you look nice. No, wear something that will compliment your significant other, but don’t match. COLORS? You can never go wrong with pastels, cool colors, and neutral tones. Stay away from that flamingo shirt you’ve been dying to wear.
HAIR AND MAKEUP
I highly recommend doing your hair and makeup. If you can have a stylist do it for you, even better. If not, pretend you are going out for a date night. Think of your engagement session as part of your date night.
BE ON TIME
I am always early, and you should be too. I would recommend getting to the location about 20-30 minutes early to relax and get comfortable. Depending on when you schedule your session, you might only have about 60–90 minutes of quality light, so you don’t want to be late and miss out on some amazing shots.
DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY
Have fun, and have faith that the photographer will do an amazing job and capture you at your very best. If you have a shot in mind, feel free to let us know.
