The 10 Questions you should ask a potential dream venue before booking.

You narrowed down your list of dream venues and schedule a few tours. Now you are looking for a little bit of help on making the most of those tours. Check out some of our advice on questions you should ask your dream wedding venue before signing on the dotted line.

How much does it cost and what’s included in the price?

When you talk to a venue, you will usually receive a quote for your wedding day. What exactly goes into this price? Does the venue offer cleanup, or are you expected to take care of that yourself? Many venues also offer DJs, coordination, and catering all at venue. For example, Loose Mansion offers an all-inclusive wedding package that includes a ceremony, reception, dinner, and DJ. If this is something that you are interested in, make sure you ask and clarify if it’s not included

Is outside catering allowed?

If the venue offers catering, do you have to use their in-house caterer, or can you book your own? An all-inclusive venue can be extremely convenient but offer less flexibility in choosing your perfect vendors. Take your time reviewing all the menu options before you decide to go with the venue’s in-house caterer.

What is the capacity of the venue?

If you are planning on having a larger wedding, will the venue be able to accommodate your wedding size? If you found your dream venue, but they don’t have the space for all your friends and family, you might have to trim down your guest list or find another venue.

Can we have our ceremony here?

Some venues allow you to have both your ceremony and reception in one place. This is super nice for the guests, photographers, and videographers because they don’t have to worry about packing up and heading to another venue. If they offer this, ask about setting up a private area for cocktail hour while they do a room flip for the reception. This is also a great time to take some photos around the venue.

Do you have a wedding coordinator on staff? If not, who do I contact?

Many venues have a coordinator that can help you with everything on your wedding day. You should ask who this person is while you are on your venue tour. Keep in mind, that this is the venue coordinator is not your wedding coordinator. They work for the venue, so issues that come up with other vendors might not be able to help with. If they don’t have a coordinator, ask who your venue contact will be during the wedding day. It’s important to have a contact in case of a last-minute emergency.

What is parking like? How Many restrooms are available?

Will your guests have to park down the street, pay for parking in a hotel garage, or take a cab to the venue? You want to make your guests as comfortable as possible, so these are important details.

What’s your cancellation policy?

This is more important now with covid. If you have to reschedule or completely cancel your wedding, what is your policy? How much is the deposit, and will you get the deposit back if you decide to cancel or reschedule? Most deposits are non-refundable to block off the wedding date, so make sure you clear this up with the venue.

Do you have a backup plan in place for bad weather?

You might have your pretty little heart set on getting married at an outdoor venue. But Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate. What precautions do they have in place in case of bad weather?

Do you have any décor we can use?

You can save lots of money if the venue has basic items such as lighting, vases, candle holders that you can use. If they offer these items, will they be included in the cost of the venue?
